After taking the first 3 Live 9 courses, this feels like one of the final pieces of the production puzzle with this DAW.
Great great overview of what seems to be more or less a fool proof formula. With these universal tips, any bedroom producer with no formal training can up their game dramatically.
Good, DTE, Honest approach to makig your usic sound good with all the aparatus that ableton give you. great work
Nothing is every prefect. I really like Olav, he's easy to listen to and maintains my interest. I will watch this one more than once just to soak in the subtle things you get from watching someone show you something! More OLAV!
Just did this course. This is just sick. I just learned so much in 2 hours working well actually 3 with beers and going to the restroom. But my tracks going to sound so much more cleaner just loved it. Thank you for this i just can not express in words how happy i am with this
Olav really has a way of explaining things clearly - this course has everything I was looking for, and he clearly demonstrated the how's and why's of the most common production techniques. Although he uses Ableton Live 9, it doesn't matter what DAW you're using, because of the way he explains the purpose of each effect - the plug-ins will vary from DAW to DAW, but the principle remains the same.
Awesome tutors, Loving it!!!!!!!! 6 out of 5, this class helped got a grip of Ableton 9 quicker than Sonic Academy or Lynda. The are good but this tutors are great here.
It's amazing how after a few years of doing this, you can still always learn new things to use. Excellent, though this tutorial mainly just addresses mixing and not so much the mastering side of things. Still very educational.
Another eye-opening course from Olav. As a long time Logic user i am still finding my feet with Live 9 (though i still use both) and Olav's 'hands-on' track making approach and relaxed teaching style are definitely pushing me in the right direction - even though he is still the King of Parameter Tweaking !! Excellent use of the inbuilt plug-ins - especially EQ and Dynamics - proving you really don't need everything 'Waves' have ever released to make your track sound "Pro". Next course idea for you Olav; How to make a Million Selling Dance Choon'. For real. As the kids say these days. ;-) (With apologies for the abuse of the English language.)
Really great stuff. Mixing back to the basics. I was doing too much edgy stuff and this brought me back to the basics .Fun to watch and very very helpful. Had tracks next to the course so I could use it right away.
Probably the most practical course I've watched so far, and essential for taking my tracks to the next level. Thank you very much.
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars. I learned more about Ableton from this one course than any of the others I've taken. Combined. I take back everything I've ever said about Ableton as a mixing platform. Extremely recommended. 10/10!! I can't wait to get mixing on my own projects now.
Olav knows his stuff, but I wish there was more explanation into the theory on some of the techniques. Also, I feel that the video production was very minimal. I prefer courses that have a great emphasis on structure and having those tips/tricks popups. No "ummms and ehhhs."
Excellent and succinct course. I wish the EQ section was a bit more in depth but the compression section is really well laid out and explained. Thanks!
Overall, this course was super-informative and its instructor was very warm and friendly. My biggest complaint: a lack of function/effect explanation. The instructor would use effects without explaining their value fully, and if they were explained it was a passing explanation. For example, the Utility effect (always been a mystery to me in Ableton) was placed onto a grouped track without any explanation of its function or value in the mix..only that it "increases width" or something. One exception was the Compressor which was explained fairly well by the instructor "The threshold determines the level at which compression needs to occur, etc". It would have been nice to have each effect parameter explained in this fashion so that we knew "why" something was being used. I also wished there was a little more attention paid to the "mastering" side of the mix. After all, the title of the tutorial suggested equal attention would be paid to both concepts. In the end, the mix side was very well represented.
Great Course, Also done by one of those instructors that just keeps you having fun while telling you what you need to know at the same time... Thanks
I'm sure lots of people have watched videos from various sources but I have to say that this course was particularly informative. While I knew a lot of what was being taught, I learnt more about eq'ing and the various types of compression usage. Knowing that I was on the right track with my own productions has allowed me to approach mixing with a lot more confidence. Many thanks.
I've been writing music and mixing for ages, I suppose I'm somewhere in the upper intermediate range as a mixer, and I've seen so many mixing tutorials over the years that it takes something really special to make me sit up and take notice. This series is one of those. Olav is just a fantastic natural teacher: His approach, the clarity with which he communicates his ideas, his respect for his audience, his humor, and the depth of his chops are a beautiful thing to experience. Don't be fooled by his casual style; there's deep knowledge here, a lot of basic stuff too — but his perspective on the basic stuff makes even that worthwhile. Thanks to Olav and AskVideo for making this happen. Serious props. Cheers!
Another great beginners tutorial from Olav Basoski. Easy to follow and also informative for more experienced users.
This course is going to solve most of the questions you are going to have when you start mixing your first tunes! I feel really lucky i found it at this part of my career as a producer!
TOP! even its not my kind of music.. ireally enjoy Olafs Courses..thank you Olaf
Seal of approval: highly recommended. That's what you need to make your song "club ready". Thanks for your very good explanation, Olav.
A very comprehensive explanation, that a novice with little recording experience can Understand!!! Thanks Olav pj
The tutorial was ok he kind of just skimmed over everything Watch his mixing course in Logic it's Better then anything i learned in recording school 10/10 You can transfer the info to Ableton
Wow, really helpful! Thank you so much Olav! Best Tutorial I have ever seen! Amazing!
Olav does it again this guy is amazing at getting his point of view across. he just knows the answer to the question before you ask it. Great explanation of the compressors
Sweeeeet !I reinforce what I already knew and learned a good notion about the different types of compression, good course!!
Takes you from a basic arrangement without any FX/mastering to one that is ready to play with the rest of your set. Applicable to most DAWs, but some nice tips on Live 9's new features too. Olav rocks
I learnt more from this course then an audio school that cost me 8 grand the only question i have for Mr Basoski is.... whats up with the white noise? is it needed or is that just a sound choice
This is by far the best tutorial I have seen on Ableton live,Reason,Reaktor etc!!.Olav is superb at showing you right throughout the course his workings, explanations, and seeing how he does things is,well.Quite inspirational.First course I didn't get bored watching.Hope there's more courses on Ableton live from Olav!!
As usual, Bososki produces a flawless documentary, with everything explained in detail but without meandering.
Olav is a remarkable musical artist no question about it. Regardless if your a seasoned pro or someone just starting out, you will definitely benefit from this course. Nice work Olav!!!!!
Olav did a great job as usual. The only thing that would have made this course better is if there was a downloadable demo track so you could do what he's doing. Wealth of knowledge.
Only a master can obviously make it appear so simple. The years of practice & experience packed in there are kept right under the veneer of the ease of use, but not out of reach. This is a classic, when the mix is excellent , the mastering is kept at a minimum. Olav keeps it basic, solid & professional. Respect for this great teacher_One of the best tutorial I've seen on the subject.
Great series!!! Olav is clear and concise with his explanations. Learned a lot from watching this series and didn't feel like he wasted my time.
Olav's focus here is more on mixing than mastering, but he does a great job of demoing basic tools, including the dual uses of compressors and the new glue compressor. Good EQ lessons too.
Good course, he moves quick so it flows well. Just wish we had the project files to go along with the tutorial so we could turn some knobs too.
This has been an FANTASTIC course! I have watched all of Olav's videos and this is one of his best!
Olav's presentation is always straight forward and easy to follow. I think a good deal of it has to do with his pleasant verbal attitude which makes it a joy of a ride. Thanks O, .. great learn!
This is why I love this guys tutorials. 1) He's not boring thank goodness. 2) He shares a wealth of information that is truly useful. And if your listening Olav I want to sub-mit a track to you for you professional opinion. Way to go Mac Pro Video.
Wow another great tutorial.Olav had delivered again, a very concise and well explained Live 9 tutorial A real good look into taking a track from ordinary to some special, with Olav's proven techniques. This tutorial, has helped me understand sound shaping, and remixing. But also has opened my eyes to sound shaping with the new EQ and that graphical display and the demonstration of using the Dynamic compressor I will be looking over my old tracks, and applying some of these techniques that Olav has demonstrated Well done, looking forward to revisiting this tutorial, again ,to brush up my skills
Very useful tips on mixing, mastering, and composition. Disecting the compression options and demonstrating the fine "details" were especially helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Oley ! for Olav....Olav always amazes with his knowledge and Grace.......we need much more of him...
