Learn the art and science of compression, limiting and expansion in this deep listening course by the engineers at Singing Canary and Modern World Recording...
“i Found This tutorial half decent. not enough explanation on compression it started off way too quickly without explaining the basis of compression + too much playing around with the parameters.”

“Understanding the tools of the trade, how, when and in what situation the given tools should and should not be used in. Good stuff thanks MPV.”
As engineers and producers, it always comes down to deep listening and being able to distinguish subtle changes in the sound as different effects are applied. That's where this course really shines. Built into most every tutorial are sections where you can watch the trainer change settings without any talking. It's just you and your ears processing and applying everything you've learned! You'll see and hear how slight changes in the threshold, ratio, knee, attack, decay and make-up gain can completely change how an individual track or an entire mix is perceived.
So get ready to learn all about dynamics processors from Singing Canary and Modern World Recording in this course on the Dynamics... and when you're finished check out all our informative and entertaining Studio and Recording courses!

For the length of the course it's a fair overview about compression. I guess a full guide on how to for dynamics would require several hours on the subject, so if bear that in mind this is a great course.
Comparison of different hardware and plugin dynamic processors and examples of uses was quite helpful in understanding the processes covered.
Great course, I really enjoyed this and learned about expanders which is great I hated using gates on vocals.
This is stuff you need to know, so if you feel your not on top of your game when it comes to compression, you will certain learn things watching this tutorial
I thought This Tutorial was Good.. it explains how "Side-chaining works" as well as the advantages of having different types of compressors,Limiters, & Gates effect processors at your disposal.
The Dynamics course is utterly fascinating. I've been mystified by the compression controls until now. I can now say that my understanding of the compressor controls and types is where it should be.
This is an invaluable course for those of us who use all these tools, but who have little understanding beyond what our ears tell us. A great catalogue of plugins presented here. Thank you!
Informative enough to a person without any knowledge of Dynamic Range Compression.
This course bring basic informations how compression works and give You solid foundations how to start work with compressors. I like summary on end of each video how and which compressor to use.
A very informative course. I especially liked the demonstration of comparing different compressors with same settings on the same audio track.
A really good course about different types of compression. Very informative.
Again, great tutorial MacPro! And again I hope there is a more in depth part 2 coming!
Thanks to this video, I have a much better understanding of the compressor controls and how to use them. (attack, release, threshold and makeup gain etc) I'm glad examples were used with types of compressors, initial settings and goals. I wish I knew what compressor to use in which application but I guess I have to spend the time and listen to the various characteristics of each. The presenter is interesting and holds your attention.
The video narrator seemed to know his compressors and to which application they were best at. The examples though seemed a little hazy as he would interrupt them (while turning unit on then off to show difference) and state which part we should point our attention to, AFTER spending 30 seconds or so comparing. It would have been better to point out what to listen for before the example started in some cases. Only touched on some subjects of compression, multiband, buss etc. Did not explain the Mid Side compression but used an example of it but didn't elaborate to why. Some mistakes in the pop up windows.
To much text going on at the same time. It would be better if you showed the example´s with the same compressor plug . Use more ex-saturated examples to show how different settings affect the sound. Show a waveform before and after using the plug.
This tutorial makes the area of 'dynamics' in recording, mixing and mastering clear enough to make me more focused in the studio and whilst recoding live events. This is a must for all learners as well as experienced engineers. It is thorough, detailed and interesting enough to keep my iPad next to me for referencing whilst working. Thanks for this. Tom.
This is a fabulous tutorial. The feed forward vs. feed back, took a couple of looks to figure out. But it was something I never understood before. And the gating bonus stuff if great, makes me think of all sorts of stuff to do with drums!
